50k livelihood aid for BHWs up
Amas, Kidapawan City - More than two thousand barangay health workers (BHWs) of the province returned home in high spirits after receiving some ‘blessings’ during the 2-day BHW Congress held at the provincial gym on November
21-22, 2011.
As she commended and thanked the BHWs for their dedication as health care providers in the communities, Governor Emmylou “Lala” J. Taliño-Mendoza, who earlier joined a joyful dance showdown with the BHWs, announced the Php50,000 livelihood assistance which will be given to every municipal federation. The governor graced the culmination activity yesterday morning.
On the same day, BHWs also received their honorariums for the first, second, and third quarters of 2011; as well as a shirt and an umbrella each as uniform.
According to Elizabeth Moneva, BHW Focal Person, the livelihood assistance amounted to Php850,000 intended for all the 17 municipalities in the province and is taken from a European Commission grant. She said, municipal federation should identify the specific livelihood program they wish to undertake and submit their project proposals. She also added that they are finalizing the policies and procedures of the project to ensure its success and sustainability.
On the opening program, Department of Health Regional Director Abdullah B. Dumama who also graced the event addressed the BHWs “our unsung heroes” as they are the frontliners of the various health programs of the government. Dumama stressed the big role of BHWs in the government’s ultimate goal towards “kalusugang pangkalahatan”. Vice Governor Gregorio T. Ipong, Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s Committee on Health Chairman Board Member Noel Baynosa, and Vice-Chair Airene Claire Pagal were also present.//lqg.idcd-pgo//
