‘Keep the highways manned 24/7’ - Gov. Taliño-Mendoza to Digos-Cotabato Road project contractors

Cotabato Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño-Mendoza asked contractors of the Digos - Cotabato City Road Improvement Project to make sure that sections under construction are monitored 24 hours a day.

During the fourth monthly meeting of the Provincial Project Monitoring and Advisory Group (PPMAG) last November 11, the governor stressed that it is important for flagmen to keep watch of the diversion sections especially in critical areas (has blind curves, heavy traffic) to assist in the flow of traffic and to address problems immediately that may come up any time of the day even on wee hours.

LGU representatives as well as DPWH 2nd District Engineer Leonardo Martinez also agreed with the governor and expressed disgust over shouldering sections that are not properly established, lack of safety barriers and signage for commuters, and absence of early warning devices for broken pavements which have been causing vehicular accidents – one of which was in Aleosan resulting to the death of a teacher motorist.

With all the on-going developments in our highways, we still have to bear in mind the convenience and most of all safety of the riding public, Governor Taliño-Mendoza reminded.  She also pressured contractors to act on the matter promptly and responsibly.

She also ordered LGUs to account project-related road accidents and have them reported to the local police station and entered into the police blotter for proper investigation.  During the PPMAG’s meeting last month, the governor asked contractors to shoulder hospitalization for any accident that may occur in their respective jurisdiction.  Same complaints on shouldering, signage and early warning devices were also disclosed on the said meeting.

Contractors, on the other hand, said that complaints on signage and early warning devices were already addressed however, unidentified individuals removed and redirected them. They also guaranteed that other concerns raised during the meeting will be acted upon the soonest possible time. //lqg.idcd-pgo//
